Focus on the Lord

Don't focus on the work of the Lord, but on the Lord of the work

So how has your focus been? Personally I have set aside time to focus on the Lord. Now, when I get in the car I turn the radio off. As I am traveling down the road on my journey (had to get that plug in there) I intentionally focus on the Lord; not the radio, phone, or even Lola (GPS system). It has only been a day, but it is a step in the right direction.

Now lets look at our focus. Is it on the work? I believe we could focus on our work for the Lord and/or the work of the Lord. What I mean is that do I focus on what I am doing or what God is doing. Either one can be a distraction from focusing on the Lord. Oswald Chambers teaches that to just focus on the work of the Lord (or blessings) can stunt our spiritual growth. If this is our total focus, then all we see of God is what we receive. We should not limit God into one aspect.

I believe to see what we are focusing on, take a look at what we are praying for. Is your prayer life consumed with asking God to bless your plan? Do you spend more time asking God to give you something that you cannot get by yourself (by the way, we call these blessings)? Based on your prayer life, what is your focus?

Hey, check out Chris Reeder's blog. He is having church planters answer questions. It's worth a look.
