Live from Florida

What a week it has been so far. We have been at all 4 theme parks here at Disney in 3 days. The weather has been great. Last night at the Magic Kingdom we had Florida snow (that's rain in case you did not know). We have spent our time seeking out new adventures and enjoying a new phase in Michaela and Marissa's life. They are venturing out, it is not all about princesses this year! Hallelujah!!!! I have only turned the cell phone on to check messages and only on the computer today to get some class work done for Rockbridge Seminary (working on my Master's degree) and it has been freeing!

Sunday morning we went to a local church and that afternoon headed off to Epcot. I hate to compare the two, but it was such a contrast I must bring it out. At church no one was at the Welcome Center to help us (I must say it did have great signage). The lady at the Sunday School information booth just stared at me and only spoke when I said hello (to her credit, I was walking with my crutches so it could have made her nervous.) People did welcome us during the welcome time, other than that - not so much. The pastor preached a very theological message about salvation, but got irritated when no one came forward. Pretty much a typical church.

Epcot, quite the opposite. People were generally glad to have us there (I know, it is because I am a paying customer - but even the trash collectors seemed happy and greeted us). They were ready for people in wheelchairs and made it very convenient (I did not feel like a bother to them). The grumpy crowd I was expecting to meet - well everyone seemed to be in a good spirit. Disney employees greeted us, not only when we entered the park, but all day and even said goodnight while we were leaving.

I am going to explore this issue deeper when I get home because the church should be the greatest experience, not a theme park. The church is to love one another with love that God empowers us with. The church should not have a problem creating excitement - we have the Holy Spirit. Why do we fall short? Questions we will ponder over the coming days.

Hi Mike, Thanks for mentioning Rockbridge in your blog! We are delighted you are having some fun. I have to admit, I saw you had not been online since last week when I took attendance, now I know why! Enjoy your time and keep up His good works! Linda LaRussa, Student Advisor, Rockbridge
