Happy Halloween?

I know for believers Halloween seems to be one of those times that we wonder about. Do we celebrate it? Do we boycott it? What do we do with Halloween?

Let me just point out a different aspect of Halloween. Regardless of what you feel about it, Halloween is the best time of the year to meet your neighbors. Think about it... how many times during the year do your neighbors expect you to drop by? Or when do they send their children to your house to receive a trick or treat? Let's face it, Halloween is a great time to build some relationships.

I know there are always exceptions to the rule, but for the most part you will find your neighbors open to a visit. So go ahead, take the risk, meet someone new. Before you seclude yourself from the world by attending a church function, why not drop by the neighbors house? If you do not have children, why not flip your porch light on and welcome visitors? Believers are to be salt and light, not hiding from our neighbors.

Now I know that some parents do not want their children participating in such an evil holiday. I can respect that, but avoiding the world will not keep your children out of hell. This is a great time of conversation between you and your children. Take time to explain what Halloween is about. Contrast that with what the Bible teaches and involve your children in developing a plan for being salt and light in a lost world. Just make sure you talk about facts and not myths (either about Halloween or the Bible).

So with that I will offer you a Happy Halloween and hope that you take the opportunity to meet someone new!
