What Disciples Do Pt II

A disciple is a person who has answered the call of Christ to follow Him by making major adjustments in their lives to invest into others

The second thing I see that disciples do based on Matthew 4 is that they make major adjustments to their lives to follow the calling of God.

When Jesus called to the disciples to follow Him, they left their nets and family to pursue this calling. Just think about it, these men left everything they knew, the security of a job and family to follow a man into the unknown. Talk about faith.

Let's be honest, praying the sinners prayer and to go to heaven one day does not require major adjustments to one's life. But living out this calling will rock your world. Think about where Jesus led the disciples - into a life that was constantly challenged, mocked, and preached against by the religious leaders of the day; they went to Samaria to meet with a woman which broke religious, generational, and cultural norms of the day; to meet with the sick and outcast; to break bread with sinners; and we can go on and on. The point is that the disciples life did not change one time, but constantly while Christ was with them and even more after His departure.

I recited the sinners prayer and sat on church pews without anything in my life being challenged. When I discovered what it meant to be a follower of Jesus, well let's just say everything in my life changed. Can we be complacent in a church and be a disciple of Jesus? Let me go ahead and tell you what I think - NO!!!

What major adjustments have come to your life as a result of following Jesus. If you can't think of any, then what is your definition of a disciple? If you use the Bible for the definition, it will include major changes to your life. If you are not a disciple, then what are you?
