It's Monday

It's monday morning and I just spent the last four hours standing at the gate of my apartment complex handing out free bags with breakfast items in it. I call it Breakfast-on-the-Go. Why? you might ask. Well, I am the Resident Assistant for the apartments, which means I look for ways to build community among the residents. I wanted to just say good morning to people and give them a little gift. It was amazing the different responses I received.

Many would read the sign identifying myself and what I was doing, then speed up to get past me. I have to admit, this was discouraging because all I wanted to do was help brighten their day. Some stopped and asked how much it cost and were surprised when I told them it was free. Thankfully, I did have a number of people stop and were genuinely grateful for the free gift.

As I stood outside this morning in the freezing cold, I tried to imagine what Jesus must have felt like when he offered His life as a free gift. Many did not understand, and some were in definite opposition to his goal. But it did not stop Him from completing his mission.

Last week we talked about victorious living. This morning I learned that I must have the attitude of Jesus when I am trying to do a good thing. I must understand that my mission is not tied to the recipient of the gift. My mission is tied to my obedience to God. I must battle the feeling of finding self-worth based on the opinion and actions of others. I don't know about you, but I am going to stop focusing on those who speed by me and focus on being more like Christ - be obedient to the Father's will.

By the way, I was a little optomistic about Breakfast-on-the-Go and I have about 100 danishes and 100 juice boxes left. If you need any, let me know! Have a good Day!
